Who We Are
The Long Beach Area Council is the local chapter of Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America), serving families in Long Beach, Lakewood, Bellflower, Signal Hill, and Avalon on Catalina Island since 1919. Through neighborhood Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Sea Scout ships, Venturing crews, and Exploring posts organized in three districts (Iron Star, New Frontier, and Neptune), we bring outdoor adventure, leadership, and community service to youth ages 5-20 across our cities.
We own and operate two camps: Camp Tahquitz, our mountain camp in Angelus Oaks in the San Bernardino Mountains, and the Long Beach Sea Base on Alamitos Bay, where teens learn to sail. Each summer we also host Camp Coyote, our free adaptive family camp for youth with special needs.
Our Scout Service Center and Scout Shop are located at 401 E 37th Street, Long Beach, CA 90807. Reach us at (562) 427-0911 or visit our Frequently Asked Questions.
What We Offer
Scouting is a year-round program the whole family does together: weekly meetings in your neighborhood plus monthly campouts, hikes, service projects, and events like the Pinewood Derby, Scouting for Food, and the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade. Programs run from kindergarten (Cub Scouts) through the teen years (Scouts BSA, Sea Scouts, Venturing, and Exploring), with a leadership path that leads to Eagle Scout. Ready to start? Our Impact in Long Beach
Scouts have served this community for more than a century. Each year, local Scouts collect food for area pantries through Scouting for Food, complete Eagle Scout projects that build and restore spaces across Long Beach, Lakewood, Bellflower, and Signal Hill, and march in the Long Beach Christmas Parade. Research on Scouting alumni shows lasting results: 84% say Scouting helped them always be honest, and 74% say it improved their ability to work with others.
