ScoutReach is a 90-minute once-a-week after-school program of Scout activities, recreation, playground sports and healthy snacks--usually held on-site at the school, immediately after school hours--which currently serves approx. 1,000 boys (mostly 6 to 13 years of age) from poverty or below poverty households, drawn from 23 urban inner city schools in the Long Beach, Ca. area. The program is administered by trained, salaried professional leaders, maintained at an 8 to 1 youth to leader ratio. The goal is create a good value system. character development and leadership ability training in our youth while having fun. All costs for the program (salaries, supplies, handbooks, uniforms, registrations, field trip transportation and snacks etc.) are funded by grants from corporations, foundations and private individuals, so the program is free to the youth involved and no parental involvment is required.
